Tigercat selects FPT Industrial as partner of choice for Tier 4 Final

Engine innovator FPT Industrial is to supply forestry equipment specialist Tigercat with Tier 4 Final engines for its range of machines, including skidders, material handlers, wheel/track bunchers, loaders/loggers, harvesters, forwarders and mulchers. Since 2013, FPT Industrial has been powering Tigercat equipment with Tier 4 Interim engines, which has included supplying NEF 6.7-litre engines that first appeared in Tigercat E-series skidders, such as the 620E, 630E and 635E. FPT’s larger 8.7-litre Cursor engine has been fitted to 726E feller bunchers and M726E mulchers.

From January 2016 Tigercat’s vast range of machinery is powered by Tier 4 Final versions of the NEF 45 and NEF 67 engines, as well as Cursor 9 and Cursor 13 engines. Each are fitted with FPT Industrial’s patented High Efficiency Selective Catalytic Reduction (HI-eSCR) after-treatment system that reduces nitrogen oxides (NOx) by more than 95% to meet the Tier 4 Final emission requirements. Using FPT Industrial’s chosen SCR-only solution, these engines are technologically streamlined and do not feature exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) or a diesel particulate filter (DPF). This enables long service intervals and means that the operator just needs to refill the AD Blue – or urea – with no further maintenance required. The lack of a DPF also avoids the potential risk of uncontrolled regeneration if unmaintained, which can result in forest fires.

The new engine partnership between the two companies will also see FPT Industrial replace competitor engines in Tigercat equipment for low emission regulated countries. These engines deliver the power and fuel efficiency of the Tier 4 Final engines but are Tier 2 rated as they do not need an after-treatment system.
Tigercat has selected FPT Industrial as its engine partner of choice due to the performance and quality of its engines, its low total cost of ownership and exceptional reliability. Proven in the over 500,000 engines that FPT Industrial manufacturers annually, its equipment is used in some of the most extreme conditions and remote locations in the world. In isolated plantations and forests at severe altitudes, from New Zealand to Brazil, FPT engines provide reliable power to Tigercat’s equipment.
