Scania XT: tailored for uptime, productivity and robustness

Since it first introduced the new truck generation in 2016, Scania has added more heavy-duty components for their construction applications in general and the XT range in particular, most of them available as A-order from the factory. Technical payloads for trucks operating off-road can reach up to 50 tonnes, but the same truck can travel swiftly on-road as well, with legal, more normal payloads.

“We have added performance steps such as new bogies, a new front axle, hub reduction, axle gears, leaf springs, a new gearbox and new steering components,” says Engvall. “They all contribute to providing a level of robustness you seldom find outside open mining sites.”

One of XT’s qualities is its flexibility; XT is not only one model but a host of performance steps for different applications. Thanks to Scania’s modular system, an XT truck can be equally fit for waste collection or operating as a flatbed with a crane.

The introduction of the Scania XT range also marked the start of a targeted offensive, with tailor-made solutions focusing on the typical needs of demanding customers in the construction industry. The Scania XT range is sporting a bumper that offers an attack angle of around 25 degrees. Together with a skid plate and robust headlamp protection mesh, all XT trucks are ready to take on the most demanding challenges.

At Bauma 2019, Scania is showing three different XT trucks, among them a G 500 heavy tipper in 8×4 axle configuration and a technical GVW of 58 tonnes. “Typical European customers have no need for that, except if they operate their own gravel pit, says Engvall. “But the point here is that with Scania XT, all kinds of applications and customers can have their tailor-made solution, complete with relevant services included, and can count on the best total operating economy.”
