Hitachi revealed new ZX17U-6 and ZX19U-6 mini excavators at Bauma

The new ZX17U-6 and ZX19U-6 mini excavators are ideal for utilities, foundation work, landscaping and indoor demolition or construction projects – and wherever space is limited. Lightweight and compact, they can be easily transported from one job site to another, and offer high levels of productivity, comfort, and durability.

The ZX17U-6 and ZX19U-6 – equipped with a new engine to comply with Stage V emissions requirements in Europe – have been presented by Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV (HCME) at Bauma. Thanks to an efficient hydraulic system, they are capable of high levels of productivity and fuel efficiency. Like previous Zaxis models, they have a quick cycle time and high workload.

The versatility of the new ZX17U-6 and ZX19U-6 is highlighted by the expandable crawler tracks. They can be retracted or widened – depending on the requirements of the job site – from 980mm, for working in small spaces or being loaded on to a truck, to 1,280mm for greater stability.

Operator comfort was a key factor in the design of the cab. It features a wide adjustable sliding suspension seat, which is surrounded by user-friendly controls within easy reach. Hydraulic pilot levers are used to operate the front, boom swing, travel and blade. Low noise levels, even with the canopy design, allow operators to work more comfortably, and visibility of the job site is enhanced by the three-post canopy design. The ZX17U-6 and ZX19U-6 are equipped with new LED lights on the boom. These have a longer lifetime than halogen lights for efficient energy use.

Several features incorporated into the design of the ZX17U-6 and ZX19U-6 enhance their durability. This includes the D-frame, boom cylinder guard and V-shaped boom cylinder cover with two bolts for added durability. Convenient maintenance features are also an integral part of the user-friendly design of the new ZX17U-6 and ZX19U-6. Examples include accessible engine and radiator covers, and more space around the fuel tank opening for easy refueling.

They are also easy to clean – the back of the blade is slanted, and shaped to minimise the build-up of dirt and make it easier to remove. Components such as the engine, pumps and filters are easily accessible. The battery disconnect switch is now available as standard on the ZX17U-6 and ZX19U-6 for safety and convenience.

Seigo Yamamoto, HCME Product Manager for Mini and Compact Products, said: “Zaxis-6 mini excavators are designed to be user-friendly, which makes them ideal for first-time users of the machine, such as in the rental market, for example. The ZX17U-6 and ZX19U-6 will be invaluable additions to any fleet, thanks to their versatility for working on a variety of job sites with different attachments, and impressive comfort and easy maintenance features.”
